Content Management
To be effective, your Web site should be kept up-to-date with current, relevant information. Panorama will help you select a content management method best suited to your business needs.
There are a number of ways to update a Web site, including:
Static HTML Pages
- All pages on a Web site can be developed as static HTML pages, which would require updating using a text editor, HTML authoring software or similar coding software. The updating could be done by you or by Panorama.
This method of updating would require File Transfer (FTP) access to the hosting server, knowledge of HTML coding and the necessary software.
This method is the most time consuming in terms of updating and editing, however no additional back-end database set-up is required during development.
Static HTML Pages With Online Editing Through A File Management System (FMS)
- All pages would be developed as static HTML pages, however editing of the files can be done online through a File Management System (FMS). Access to the hosting server and HTML coding software would not be needed, however HTML knowledge is a requirement.
Dynamic Page Generation with Back-End Database
- A back-end database would be set-up to store information for, at least, the ‘Product’ and/or ‘Services’ section of the Web site. The database would require set-up during the development of the site and would be maintained by Panorama.
Content updating would be performed by Panorama directly on the database server. Online access would not be available for updating by the Client. The FMS would not be required for the Web pages using this feature, however can be used for other, non-dynamic, pages of the site.
Dynamic Page Generation With Content Management System (CMS) And Back-End Database
- A Content Management System (CMS) allows online data entry, manipulation and deletion through a browser interface on any computer connected to the Internet. It also allows the uploading of files to the Web server, such as PDFs and photographs. One CMS would be developed for the entire site. The CMS would allow the client's staff to update the site content at any time with minimal interaction with Panorama.
All of Panorama’s CMS are custom designed to the Web site's specfic needs.

Dynamic Page Generation With ‘Shopping Cart’ Software
- “Shopping Cart” software contains all of the features of a CMS and a FMS. Direct updating of ‘Product’ and/or ‘Service’ descriptions and editing of other Web site pages can be conducted online through this interface.
“Shopping Cart” software also allows for the online purchasing of the products and/or services on the Web site. The client has complete control of prices, shipping, taxes and other e-commerce aspects of the products and/or services, through the CMS. Customer databases, accounts, newsletters and contact information can also be controlled through the CMS.
